Teesav – Established 1915
When the South African troops marched down West Street to the harbor in Durban, on their way to action in the First World War, little did they know that they were responsible for the establishment of one of South Africa’s oldest and best-known clothing manufacturing operations. Mrs. H. Savage, the founder, began making shirts, shorts, mosquito nets and a variety of other lines for the war effort, and the business grew.
The young Everard Savage joined the firm and Thomson Savage & Company flourished, producing men’s, boy’s and girl’s clothing, protective overalls, nurses uniforms, leisurewear and khaki wear. With the advent of the Second World War, the company went over to mass production of articles urgently needed for the war.
The company’s distinctive Teesav brand name had become a household word in South Africa, and this famous brand continues to be the first choice for many categories of specialist clothing such as protective wear. corporate wear, khaki wear and the famous Teesav rugby shorts.
